This starter belt is made of steamed and oiled cherry wood from German and Austrian fruit farms and has both 10 micron (fine) and 20 micron (raw) grains. The rough side is sprinkled with diamond powder. Diamond is a very fine aluminum oxide abrasive. This aids in 'pulling' which contributes to a particularly clean burr. Fun fact: use the sling in the same way as you use a knife on butter, only then you have the correct posture that gives the best results. Never pull against the cutting edge, because then you cut IN the material.
